IN THE SPRING, 2012, WE WERE INFORMED BY THE CITY OF PENSACOLA THAT THE LAND USE CODE FOR OUR LOCATION ONLY PERMITTED GUEST TO STAY 30 DAYS OR LESS. THREATENED WITH A ZONING VIOLATION ORDER AND FINES, WE WERE FORCED TO CLOSED DOWN OUR TRANSITIONAL SUPPORTIVE HOUSING MINISTRY.

Town and County Affordable Cottages has vacancies that will not last long due to our affordable monthly rent of $350/$500/$600 for our recently renovated studio cottages. The Cottages are desgined for individuals who are on fixed, monthly governemental assistance-SSI, SSDI, VA or other housing assistance or have verifiable monthly income. Safe, Sanitary, Affordable Housing for the Disabled on SSI, SSDI, VA and SSA.

HISTORY

Built in 1941, this original Florida Motor Court campus was operated as a budget motel. It consist of 19 individual stone, cottages making up 27 housing units located on a full city block in the City of Pensacola, at 1717 West Cervantes Street. Currently there is a housing shortage/need in the Pensacola Area for safe, sanitary, decent and affordable housing for people who receive monthly governmental assistance checks but not enough assistance to pay the necessary cash to set up a household (this is approximately $800-$1,000 for the necessary security deposit, utility deposits, first and last month’s rent).

In 2004, after Hurricane Ivan, the Town and Country Motel partially closed and has remained underutilized until now.

THE COTTAGES
FaithWorks InterFaith Ministries Network, Inc. and Fellowship of Psalms 41:1-4, Inc. leases the property and is restoring this budget motel into long term transitional and permanent affordable housing for the poor and disabled individuals who desire safe, sanitary and affordable housing; requiring no up-front cash deposits. All monthly utilities are included in the monthly affordable rent. Internet access is available for an additional charge.

  •  Cleaning both the interior and exterior, including the tile roof, of each Cottage
  •   Repairing of all walls, ceilings, windows, glass, electrical switches/sockets, interior and exterior lighting fixtures, bathroom fixtures, doors and porches

  •   Painting all the interior rooms and exterior walls/porch

  •  Replacement of floor coverings

  •  Installation of handicap wall rails in bathroom  Installation of outside wheelchair ramps where needed

  •  Landscaping throughout the campus

  •  Creation of an on campus Community Garden area

  •  Creation of an on campus Walking and Exercise Track

  •  Creation of a Community Picnic Area

Your financial or in-kind contribution will help reopen this needed affordable transitional /permanent housing campus for a specific disadvantaged population in the Pensacola Area hit hard by the current recession/ unemployment/ foreclosures/ evictions.
